A female-led street patrol with 50 volunteers is keeping people safe at night in Newcastle. They check on women out alone at night and pub and door staff call them when they feel someone needs help. They have even partnered with a local cab firm so they can call in a free ride home for anyone who needs it. Local police, venues, and the public love it. Already they have inspired a parallel initiative in nearby Middlesbrough, and are working with interested volunteers in cities across the UK, including Manchester and Edinburgh.
