Access to information about HIV in South Africa can be difficult, especially in rural areas. Often, the only way to find out about treatment is at a healthcare center, which in rural areas can be many miles away. And even then it can be challenging with health care workers always busy. Enter HIV i-Base, a London-based organization that provides support and information on treatment and living with HIV. To ensure that people in rural areas had access to much needed information, HIV i-Base created a solar powered talking book. It narrates information about available treatments, side effects, and more. The narration makes sure the information is accessible to those who cannot read. A solar power panel on the back of the book makes it easy to charge. The books are available in the multiple languages spoken in the region.
