Max, an English springer spaniel, is helping save koalas in Australia. Max is part of a conservation detection dog agency called Canines for Wildlife and has been trained to detect koala poo with his nose. The team is tying to determine how many koalas live on private properties in the NSW Northern Tablelands. The hope is that the higher-altitude district could be a refuge for koalas in the face of climate change. Finding poo not only tells the team if and how many koalas are on a property, but also how they are related to each other and if they are healthy or carrying any disease.
