When Anson Ng's father died when he was nine, his uncle helped arrange the funeral. Now the 55-year-old businessman is the 'uncle who helps people' by paying for the funerals of strangers and running Hao Ren Hao Shi (Good People, Good Deeds), which feeds 1,000 households a month. He started helping at old age homes and hospices more than 15 years ago, cooking meals for the residents. Befriending them, he learnt about their last wishes and desired funeral rites. "It doesn't matter that I am a stranger to these people that I help. They are in need, and I am lucky to be in a position where I can make their lives a bit easier." He was named SIngaporean of the Year 2022 by the Straits Times.
