Being a well-known vacation spot near Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks makes it challenging for the Teton County School District in Jackson, Wyoming, to retain teachers. So they are finding ways to help teachers master their craft so they feel they are making a difference, such as taking part in the cutting-edge approach of the University of Wyoming’s new Master Educator Competency program. Having learned directly from educators on road trips, the program offers job-embedded courses with small modules that can be adapted to teachers’ needs, and can be taken with online instructors - because, for the Teton County School District, it’s a seven-hour drive to most institutions where district staff could work on a master’s degree or get high-quality professional development.
