Twelve concertgoers experienced live music for the first time since lockdown, in an incredibly intimate concert setting: one-on-one, in Germany's now barren Stuttgart Airport. The concerts took place in 10-minute intervals, with no spoken exchange or applause allowed. Flutist Stephanie Winker surfaced the idea last year, inspired by a performance artist's 2010 "The Artist Is Present" work in which the artist stared into the eyes of whoever sat opposite her. "When corona came ... I just thought, Wow. One-on-one concerts would be the only form of performance that could work in this moment," she recalls. The intimate scale in an unlikely concert milieu was a new experience for everyone, and many were moved. "I've never felt such a connection between musician and audience," said a 19-year-old attendee.
