The Seine River in Paris, long celebrated in art and poetry, had fallen into hard times in recent decades. Pollution had made it an unpleasant proposition to swim in the Seine. But with the award of the 2024 Summer Olympics, the city underwent a £2.3 billion transformation process to clean up the river. In addition to cleaning up the river for the Olympics, Paris is aiming to create five bathing spots along the river. Through the restoration efforts, fish are actually beginning to return to the river again, as well.
