The story of the wedding ring that traveled further and longer than its honeymooning bride will likely be often retold in Cassino, Italy. Keith Bratt had set out to swim with sea turtles in Akumal Bay on Mexico’s Riviera Maya when he saw a gold band lying on the ocean bottom. Bratt, a heavy equipment operator from Lethbridge, Alberta, and his wife, Karen, were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. He set out to find the ring’s owner, who turned out to be Licia Pietroluongo, who was visiting relatives in Quebec when she saw Bratt’s Facebook post. Her husband, Gaetano Rossi, had designed the ring, which will now have a bit of a journey home. Bratt will ship the ring from Alberta to Pietroluongo’s cousin in Quebec who will take the ring to Italy with her in June.
