Back on June 11, part of I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia collapsed as a result of an accident involving a tanker truck. When the destroyed interstate section was reopened after an expeditious rebuilding effort, Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty was there to help. Riding on top of a Philadelphia Fire Department ladder truck, Gritty, and fellow Philly sports mascots Swoop, the Phanatic, Franklin, and Phang, were among the first to cross the new section. The Flyers, Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, and Union banded together to raise $50,000 for the daughter of the tanker truck driver who died in the accident.
