Ukraine's pioneering medical train, operated by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), evacuates wounded individuals from the conflict-ridden eastern regions to the safer western areas. The train has completed over 100 missions since March 2022, evacuating more than 3,300 patients, including victims of shell blasts, orphaned children, psychiatric patients, and cancer patients. It consists of eight carriages, providing medical care and psychological support to the evacuees. It collaborates with Ukrainian Railways to free up bed space in medical units in conflict zones. While demand has lessened recently, the train's mission continues, with plans to eventually transport displaced patients back to their homes once the regions are liberated. "For now, we keep on going, and we keep our team prepared for anything," said Zharkova, the train's deputy medical director.
