The inventor Garrett Brown, who developed the Steadicam used on movie sets around the world, is hoping his new kind of ‘upright’ wheelchair, the Zeen, will be just as disruptive. Visiting his then-97-year-old dad in a care facility, Brown noticed differences between pals who used walkers and those who used wheelchairs. To date, more than 300 Zeens have been sold and one gifted to Pope Francis. The Zeen currently retails for $3,980. The company directs those who need help with funding to charities like Ceridian Cares, alternative financing programs for assistive technology state by state, the medical crowdfunding site Help Hope Live, and offers installment payment plans through PayPal and ShopPay.
