Along her journey to recovery from two bouts of breast cancer, Lori Boersma found a new passion in rowing. She will row with a dozen survivors from across the US in the Head of the Charles Regatta, as part of the Survivor Rowing Network launched earlier this year by Rowing Cares, which mobilizes the rowing community to battle cancer. Holly Metcalf of MIT’s rowing program, who started We Can Row-Boston in 2002 as a wellness and recovery program for women treated for breast cancer, provided support. “What I love about being here is students are visionary. And big world problems, they want to solve them. So maybe here at MIT one of my students may have an answer to getting rid of cancer,” she said. “That’s here. It’s all about finding answers through collaboration and that’s what rowing is, it’s a collaboration of mind, of body.”
