This Thanksgiving, 30,000 residents of Washington, DC, will have food on the table thanks to the nonprofit DC Central Kitchen which distributes food to dozens of local pantries. One of its partners is Plenty to Eat, a small nonprofit, runs a pantry inside the Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School, which serves 800 adults earning their GED. It was founded in 2017 by Connie Williams, who as a young mother went from getting her GED at Academy of Hope to getting cooking skills at DC Central Kitchen to a culinary degree. Williams picked up 152 frozen turkeys from DC Central Kitchen Friday and on Sunday, teamed up with EDC Jewish Community Center to complete Thanksgiving meals.
