The city of Frankfurt will mark its main pedestrian zone with lights and ‘Happy Ramadan’ signs for the first time to mark the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which began Monday 11 March or Tuesday, depending on the sighting of the new moon, and lasts until 9 April. The German city was inspired by London, England, which illuminated Piccadilly Circus with Ramadan lights last year.
