Organizations in Helena, Montana, US, are working together to solve housing insecurity. The United Way of Lewis and Clark Area is buying the Helena Inn to turn the rooms into single-living studio apartments with a few family-sized units. The Helena Area Habitat for Humanity, YWCA and Rocky Mountain Development Council are working to develop affordable housing on Our Redeemers Lutheran Church land, and Good Samaritan Ministries is working to secure a location for an emergency women’s shelter. Family Promise of Greater Helena, which offers financial literacy, parenting, and homelessness prevention and diversion programs, plans to renovate its current location into a 14-room family shelter and bought First Christian Church for $1 to use as an administrative office and to hold the classes.
