A Tuscan farm is now home to Italy’s first wind phone, an installation designed to help people connect with their dearly departed. Originally conceived by a Japanese designer as a way to cope with the loss of a loved one, the wind phone is a phone booth not connected to any network. It allows individuals to engage in a one-way conversation, sharing their feelings and thoughts with those they have lost. This concept has spread globally, with installations in North America and Ireland. The Tuscan wind phone, unveiled in December 2023 near Capannoli in Pisa, is the first of its kind in continental Europe. Placed on the highest hill of the Tegolaia farm, the phone booth offers a serene spot for introspection, allowing visitors to feel the wind, breathe deeply, and release their emotional burdens.
