The Class of 2024 Undergraduate Students were honored in a memorable ceremony despite challenging weather conditions. Philanthropist Robert Hale Jr. received the UMass Dartmouth Chancellor's Medal for his exceptional philanthropy work, sharing insights from his own life journey and encouraging graduates to persevere in the face of adversity. As the ceremony concluded, Hale surprised the graduates by announcing generous gifts: each student received $500 to keep and $500 to donate to a charity or cause of their choice. Chancellor Fuller and student speaker Alexis Petty emphasized the importance of embracing uncertainty and the diverse backgrounds of the graduating class, which included 40% first-generation students and 31% students of color. The ceremony not only celebrated academic achievements but also instilled a spirit of generosity and resilience among the graduates, inspiring them to embark on their future endeavors with hope and compassion.
