A bed and meal for 100 homeless kids every day, a safe space for abused women and hope for young people seeking employment, Esmé Julies has been a tireless advocate for vulnerable people in South Africa for 14 years, despite her meager income. As director of the NGO Women rebuilding broken hearts, she empowers toddlers and teenagers with anti-bullying life skills learned from the women-led organization 1000 Women Trust, and regularly assists abused women with trauma training counselling. She runs a freelance cleaning service, Esme's Projects, and often employs women to assist her. Julies, who suffered severe physical, emotional and financial abuse from her husband, won back her house in Kalkfontein via the court.
