European countries, addressing issues of climate change, have adopted a method from Japan to transform small urban spaces into biodiverse landscapes. The Miyawaki Method was pioneered by Japan's famous botanist, Akira Miyawaki, in 1970. It restores indigenous forests on degraded land that were no longer being used by people. Organizations in France, Belgium and Holland have implemented this method with great success on small parcels of land that now house diverse ecosystems. Good things do come in small packages!
