Gray Wolves are an endangered species in California. There is only one Gray Wolf pack -- the Lassen pack -- and at the end of last year, the pack consisted of six wolves -- the mother, a subadult from the 2018 litter, and 4 puppies from 2019. The mother was seen with a lone black male wolf at the beginning of the year and has recently given birth to eight pups, World Animal News reports. It's a victory for those championing Wolf Recovery -- especially worth celebrating, as federal funding is waning and the current administration has proposed to remove its federal protection of wolves across the country. While California still has state funding, other West Coast states, such as Oregon, do not. Here's to the new litter of pups -- may they live long and flourish!
