Vanderbilt University senior Sarah Fuller, 21, made history November 28, when she delivered the opening kickoff of the second half of the Power 5 football game her team played against the University of Missouri. Last week Fuller, the goalkeeper on Vanderbilt's SEC championship soccer team, got a call to tryout as a kicker for the university's Commodores football team, which had lost several players due to Covid-19. Sarah did so well that she was the only kicker on the travel team roster. Prior to the game, she shared a touching moment with the Missouri coach, who told her, "I'm a dad of four daughters, and they're watching today. This is just incredible what you're doing." Fuller's journey wasn't easy, though. Suffering three injuries last spring, she dutifully started the Fall soccer season on the bench. On Sunday, with a small group of reporters, she said, "...this was never an easy path whatsoever. But the fact that I didn't stop and I didn't give up, I think it's huge." Donning a helmet with "Play Like A Girl" on it, Fuller joins a handful of notable women who have played in college football.
