Recently a group of elderly citizens in Madrid ventured out of their care homes for the first time in many months of pandemic. I haven't been out in over a year, said 80-year-old Segundo Llorente. The surprise destination for their outing brought them to breath-taking views while standing on a glass bridge 100 meters (330 feet) above Madrid city streets. Thanks to recent Covid-19 vaccinations, groups of 20 elders can step outside under supervision and with precautions like disinfecting hands and checking their temperatures before setting off. Residents of several care homes run by religious organization Messengers for Peace were surprised with the day trip. When Benedict Garcia left the nursing home, he said, "My legs were shaking because it's been so long." To close out the outing, the group sang happy birthday to Garcia, who just turned 85. "Good, very good. Stupendous," he said, of his day out.
