Canadian runner David Papineau has picked up a lot of masks -- more than 5,000 -- and he's still at it. Papineau is a frequent visitor to the streets of Vancouver, his home base; he has run every street and laneway in the city at least once. Without his regular running group to chat with, he started to notice his surroundings more, including the growing number of face masks dropped on the street. Taking a cue from a child he saw picking up trash, he decided to make it his mission to pick up masks during his regular jaunts through the city. Less than two months after he started, he's already picked up 5,000 of them. Getting masks off the ground feels like a really important step toward normal, Papineau said.
