Meet Ebtehal Badawi, an artist who carries with her a blue poster with a painting of a yellow bridge. Decorating the top of the bridge are raised fists of different skin colors and nine different religious symbols. And there is her energetic smile, too. For me, it's not just a painting, says Badawi. It's bringing everyone together so they can feel they belong. Badawi carries the poster everywhere she goes as part of her Pittsburgh Builds Bridges campaign to raise awareness on racial and religious unity. Original versions of her art can be found in canvas and mural forms at five schools, a cafe, Penn State's Greater Allegheny campus, and a grassroots organization that supports to refugee resettlement. Badawi has other art pieces that center on themes around tolerance and acceptance.
