A 'tsunami' of ten billion trees is the climate change initiative in which thousands of Pakistanis are eagerly participating. Melting Himalayan glaciers and intensifying monsoon rains make the country very vulnerable and tree planting is the quickest and cheapest way to reverse the effects. 21 species of trees including chinar and deodar are being planted by the citizens all across the country, with youngsters participating eagerly. Community members are also paid to protect existing forests from the timber mafia, who have killed 11 people between 2016 to 2018. It is expected that about 500 million trees will be planted by the end of the year with a goal of around 3.2 billion by 2023. Young people get very excited when they hear about this. It's their future that we're investing in, says Malik Amin Aslam, Pakistan's minister for climate change
