People driving along the New York State Thruway this holiday season will see a new public artwork. The Oneida Indian Nation's Passage of Peace features nine illuminated tipis - a show of solidarity with the Western American Indian Nations hit hard by COVID-19, and reminder of the importance of coming together in peace and remembrance with family, friends and neighbors during the holiday season. We hope The Passage of Peace will bring attention to continued hardship taking place in many parts of Indian Country, while delivering a message of peace and remembrance with our neighboring communities here in Upstate New York, said Ray Halbritter of the Oneida Indian Nation.
