Within ten days, the Polish town of Przemsyl welcomed 180,000 refugees fleeing the country of Ukraine. A strong familial history exists between the two neighboring countries. The Ukrainians were deeply appreciative of all the offerings of transportation, accommodation, and donations during a time filled with fear, uncertainty, and fatigue. Many Polish waited patiently on train platforms -- some up to five hours -- holding cardboard signs offering a place to stay for the refugees. Yet, there are concerns whether the town can sustain such operations in the long-term if the conflict continues. As the efforts of kindness carry on, Mayor Wojciech Bakun says they are "talking to international organizations about how to manage this if it goes on for longer."
