Two Charles Darwin manuscripts, worth millions of pounds, were anonymously returned in a pink gift bag with a typed note wishing the librarian a happy Easter. The manuscripts had been missing for two decades, reported as stolen by the Cambridge University library.Who left them and where they were remains a mystery. Their disappearance prompted a worldwide appeal with the help of the local police force and Interpol. The notebooks, which represent some of Darwin's first inklings of his theory of evolution by natural selection, were removed from storage to be photographed in 2000 but not returned to their proper place.
