In Zhejiang Province, Chinese studio DnA_Design and Architecture is transforming nine abandoned stone quarries into cultural spaces, including a library and performance venue. The transformation is part of a broader project to regenerate China's rural Jinyun county. Beijing-based DnA_Design and Architecture drew on the rich history of monuments and rock inscriptions in the region, challenging the "over-designing" of popular tourist areas in rural China and reconnecting the local community with its thousand-year heritage. A scenic route will link all the new spaces.
