Twenty-one medical workers from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), flew to Navajo Nation last week, answering a call to help the community hit hard by the virus. As San Francisco's number of cases are leveling off, these medical heroes felt they had to help those in need. For weeks, these communities had been pleading with the government for support, hoping they weren't forgotten. The population of Navajo Nation is one-third that of San Francisco, but the indigenous community currently has more cases. "Leaving our loved ones is not an easy thing to do," said Siriram Shamasunder, a doctor on the team of volunteers. "But we are aiming to make the first citizens of our country really first in this moment."
