Footballer Marcus Rashford’s debut children’s book will be given to 50,000 primary school children in economically deprived areas of the United Kingdom this summer. In The Breakfast Club Adventures, 12-year-old Marcus gets a mysterious note inviting him to join the Breakfast Club Investigators after he kicks his favorite football over the school fence. He and his new friends Stacey, Lise and Asim solve the mystery of what lies beyond the fence. And they get his football back. Inspired by Rashford’s own adventures growing up, the book is aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds. Rashford said the club aims to "get the right books in the hands of children who have very limited access to them" and offer "an escape from environments that can be quite challenging and to find the joy in reading." So far it has delivered more than 100,000 free copies. The previous two choices were A Dinosaur Ate My Sister and Silas and the Marvellous Misfits. In the fall of 2022, another 25,000 copies of a yet-to-be-announced title will be given out.
