In 2006, Sal Perez, a young, first-generation Mexican American, started as production coordinator for the television show "Sesame Street." Now at age 38, he will be the show's first Latino executive producer. The show continues to build upon its heritage of positive representations of characters of diverse backgrounds, such as Latinos and Koreans. "We wanted kids to watch the show and feel reflected, feel like we were being authentic to experiences of kids of all backgrounds," said Perez. The television show will be premiering its 53rd season.
