Babcock Ranch, Florida was intentionally designed to survive extreme weather and after Hurricane Ian sat overhead for nearly 10 hours, dumping more than a foot of rain, the town proved remarkably resilient in the face of the hurricane. Unlike surrounding areas, Babcock Ranch did not flood, in large part because of civil engineer Amy Wicks' years of planning and her unique stormwater management design that mimicked natural systems rather than fighting them.
