For the first time in one thousand years, girl choristers are singing in the Regensburg cathedral school, home to the well-known Domspatzen boys choir. After weeks of rehearsals, the girls choir gave their first concert on the fourth Sunday in Advent. “For many centuries, women were not allowed to sing in the church,” said cathedral visitor Hildegard Zehetbauer. “The whole of church music history gave women no voice. It’s wonderful this is happening now in Regensburg Cathedral.”
