Farmers in India have to face cold winter weather and wild animals when working at night because it is the only time they receive electricity to tend to their fields. The electricity is needed to power pump sets for irrigation. Sunlight now offers new hope. India has launched a solar-based irrigation scheme, providing solar-based pumps in rural areas. “Shifting agricultural load may allow an opportunity to provide more reliable electricity supply while maximising the use of the abundant in-state solar resources," a reports states.
