Every Monday and Friday, a Jersey Post letter carrier comes to Christopher Brough’s 200-year-old row-house cottage for a quick chat. At 76, with a touch of hearing loss and history of a major stroke, he is a prime candidate for the “Call & Check” program that supports older adults living at home. Jersey's Department of Health and Community Services funds the service, which costs £6.75 per visit. Jersey postal workers have made 79,867 official visits since 2013, taking roughly the same amount of time as the delivery of a package requiring a signature. The program has attracted attention from postal services worldwide. France and Japan have such programs.
