It was incredibly emotional when after 75 years, David Rossler returned to the place where he hid from the Nazis in 1944 and 1945 and thanked George Bourlet’s five grandchildren. Bourlet and his four young adult children hid Rossler, now 84, and his mother in their home in Brussels near the end of World War II. Rossler had already lost his father, uncle and grandfather. Bourlet and his family were also in danger if they were caught hiding the Jewish mother and child. After Allied forces liberated Belgium in 1945, Rossler moved to Austria. His son Lionel found Bourlet’s grandchildren with the help of a genealogist. The Rosslers want Bourlet to be recognized as Righteous Among The Nations at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, which recognizes non-Jews who risked everything during the Holocaust to save Jewish people.
