As it has since 1959, Cuba recently sent a "brigade" of 52 doctors and nurses to Italy to help care for coronavirus patients. They are part of the country's "Army in White Robes." Cuba sent the mission in response to a request from Italy's extremely hard-hit Lombardy region the first time the country known for its high doctor-to-population ratio has sent emergency healthcare workers to Italy. "We are all afraid but we have a revolutionary duty to fulfill," intensive care specialist Leonardo Fernandez, 68, told Reuters. "So we take out fear and put it to one side."
