Women are breaking paths in the traditionally male-dominated industry of sports broadcasting. Even though 83.5% of sports broadcasting jobs were held by men in 2022, women are inspiring each other, as well as people of color, through their involvement in on-air roles and making historic broadcasts. A recent example is an all-female NBA broadcast between the Denver Nuggets and the Toronto Raptors in March 2021. All of the on-air roles such as color analysis, play-by-play, sideline reporting, halftime show were led by women. The experiences of trailblazers such as Ann Meyers Drysdale, vice president and color analyst for the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, are giving hope to young women who aspire to work in sports broadcasting. “The people that I worked with the majority of the time were like, ‘Yes, we want to hear from you and your voice is important.’ So I feel very confident that I’ve been respected in the game,” said Myers Drysdale.
