In two decades, volunteers have cleaned up more than a million pounds of trash in Yosemite National Park during its annual Yosemite Facelift. On National Public Lands Day this year, approximately 1,500 volunteers picked up 10,432 pounds of trash, clocking in at 12,138 hours of work. The event is hosted by the Yosemite Climbing Association, started over 20 years ago by climber Ken Yager. As an incentive, the Yosemite Rush Creek Lodge & Spa offered a 10% discount on lodging for guests and provided guests with a magnesium foot soak after contributing to the cleanup efforts. Now, the week-long event has expanded into 20 additional locations throughout US.
