Wanting to buy a car to visit family outside New York City, Tiya Gordon was planning to get an electric vehicle but then realized there was nowhere in her neighborhood she could charge it overnight. Drivers should be able to charge on the block where they are parking at night, she says. She co-founded itselectric, which designed a simple curbside charger that looks like a parking meter and is designed to connect with adjacent property owners’ electricity service. Those owners earn a percentage of any revenue the charger generates. Gordon hopes her company can help make EV chargers common along city streets so more people can charge close to home.
