Hang onto your hats, green energy fans, as the Netherlands is riding high on a renewable energy wave. The Dutch turned out 120 billion kWh of electricity in 2023, of which nearly half was renewably sourced -- a stunning shift from fossil fuels, which dropped 12%. Much of this eco-power came from wind energy, which soared by an impressive 35% thanks to an upgrade in both onshore and offshore wind turbine capacity. Also basking in the sun was solar power, which surged by nearly a quarter due to the increase in installed solar panel capacity. The cherry on top? The Netherland's renewable energy success has even sparked an export trend, with electricity exports reaching a record 25 billion kWh in 2023. This green leap forward shows that harnessing wind and solar power can be "a lightbulb moment" for energy production.
