Lou Harris, an African-American surfer living in Rockaway, Queens, N.Y., organized a massive paddle-out after the death of George Floyd. As the leader of the Black Surfers Association-East Coast Chapter, Harris provides free surfboards and lessons to kids in the community as a way to help them find their passion and enjoy surfing. Usually, paddle-outs are organized to honor the death of a surfer; this one was organized to raise awareness for the Black Lives Matter Movement. Three hundred people from all walks of life in Rockaway came together to answer the call for action in an incredible display of unity.
