Ricardo Pimentel has run an animal shelter, Tierra de Animales (Land of Animals), in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula since 2011. When Hurricane Delta was approaching Mexico in early October, Pimentel opened his home to provide shelter for 300 dogs and a variety of other animals such as cats, chicks, bunnies and a hedgehog. Sheep sheltered on a patio. The house reportedly smelled terrible, but Pimentel was undeterred, saying, It doesn't matter if the house is dirty; it can be cleaned. The things they broke can be fixed or bought again, but what's beautiful is to see them happy, healthy and safe, without wounds and with the possibility of being adopted.
