Issac Harms, a high school social studies and psychology teacher in Minnesota, allows his students to sleep in class. It's actually part of a lesson on the stages of sleep. Using comfortable positioning, breathing techniques and a story, Mr. Harms allows the students to enter sleep and then discusses the stages of sleep once they have awakened. The "nap time" is only about 20 minutes. Each student's experience is different and allows for learning through action. His students report actually learning from Harms rather than just memorizing material for a test. He learned this lesson from his former mentor, and after sharing this technique on Instagram, other teachers have reached out in hopes of adopting it and sharing it with their students.
