As the pandemic caused more job losses and more hungry people in Caracas, Venezuela, Andrs Burgos, 55, turned to his kitchen and bike to help serve his fellow Venezuelans in need. Before the pandemic, food insecurity affected nearly a third of the country, and the numbers have been rising since. Seeing more and more people searching for food on the streets, Burgos wakes up every day at 3 a.m. to make arepas (a filled flour pastry) and then delivers them by bicycle to hungry people. He has gone from making and delivering 20 arepas per day to 150 and is powered by the smiles and appreciation he receives from the hungry and homeless.
