The Covid-19 crisis might have come with one positive effect: Like never before, we realize the importance of childcare and eldercare workers in our society. In the aftermath of the virus, we might consider reuniting the youngers and the elders instead of keeping them apart, as we tended to do until now - indeed, childhood is lived to its full potential when accompanied by the experience and knowledge of the older ones. The extended childhood and old age that human beings have evolved to experience are proved to be critical to our most valuable human capacities. Childhood allows exploration, learning and creativity, while old age allows caring and teaching. "In some ways, we are at our most human before puberty and after menopause," writes Prof. Alison Gopnik at University of California, Berkeley.
