In all his 26 years as a rescue worker, Mana Srivate has performed dozens of resuscitation attempts. On December 20, while off duty, he instinctively jumped into action, reviving a baby elephant who had been struck by a motorcycle while crossing the road. "It's my instinct to save lives, but I was worried the whole time because I can hear the mother and other elephants calling for the baby," Mana told Reuters. He guessed where the elephant's heart was located using an online video and recalled, "When the baby elephant started to move, I almost cried." After 10 minutes, the elephant stood up and was taken for treatment before being returned to the scene of the accident, where the elephants returned after the mother heard her baby calling out. The motorcyclist had no serious injuries.
