In November, Lynn Marchessault found herself stranded in unfamiliar winter driving conditions while driving from Georgia to Alaska to join her husband. Feeling unable to complete the trip, she posted a call for help online, and Gary Bath of Fort St. John, B.C., offered to drive the family the remaining 1,050 miles (1,700 km) of their journey. "Somebody was stranded, asking for help, so I was in a position to give her help," he told Daybreak North host, Carolina de Ryk. In the months since, not only have Bath's and Marchessault's families become close friends, the story went viral online, with Bath receiving countless messages of thanks. Recently, U.S. peanut company Planters offered both Bath and Marchessault a new car. The gifts are part of the company's decision to forgo its $5 million Super Bowl ad budget, instead redirecting the funds toward recognizing people who help others.
