Scotland, which aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2045, met almost 100 percent of its electricity needs from renewable sources in 2020. Since this ambitious goal was set in 2011, renewable energy has tripled its electricity output and now produces enough power for 7 million households. This has displaced huge amounts of carbon, employed 17,700 people and greatly benefited communities. Scotland's climate change targets have been a "tremendous motivator to the industry," said Claire Mack, chief executive of Scottish Renewables.
